Welcome Football-Fans! This Blog introduces all teams that are going to battle for the World Cup title 2006 in Germany. Listed by their accociations, you can find the teams who made it through the qualifiers.

EUROPE

Europe has a total of 14 slots for 2006 FIFA World CUP (including Germany being automatically qualified as host nation). 51 Team have been battling in 8 Groups. The winners of each group + the best two second placed team automatically qualified for the final tournament. The remaining 3 free spots are still to be fought out by a two-legged play-off of the remaining second placed teams. (more)

SOUTH AMERICA

Southamerican Football Association 'CONMEBOL' assigned 4 plus 1 starting slots for the 2006 tournament in Germany. The Qualifiers had been affected by the dominant performance of the two World Cup veterans Brasil and Argentina. The selecao lost only two of their qualifiers and being the titelholders they should be once more top seeded for the title. A possible 5th starting slot for the southamerica group could be gained by Uruguay who will have to play off over two legs against Austalia (winners of Oceania Zone). (more)

AFRICA

Africas Qualifiers came up with some surprising results. Top Seeded Teams like Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal or the upcoming World Cup Host South Africa struggled in their groups, whereas remarkeble performances by Angola, Togo and Cote d'Ivoire lifted them to the top of their groups - These teams will debut in the 2006 Tournament. A total of 5 african will proceed to fight for the football crown in Germany. (more)

ASIA

Asias favorites had a walk over in their qualifying groups. Particularly Japan and Saudi Arabia left a mark by dominating their groups. It remains to be seen whether South Korea will be able to repeat their strong appearance at 2002 World Cup after showing only a moderate qualifying performance. (more)

CONCACAF

Familiar outcome in the CONCACAF Qualifying Group (comprising North- /Central America and the Caribbean). USA and Mexico lived up to expectations and marched through their groups showing impressive football. 3rd placed Costa Rica will join them at the 2006 tournament. Trinidad & Tobago could become team no. 4 to qualify. They will run against Bahrain (5th of Asian group) in a play-off. (more)

The 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Organising Committee has announced a new conditional ticket programme between 2 and 30 November, aimed at redistributing potential returned tickets from a variety of initial allocations. The ultimate intention is to avoid empty seats during the tournament caused by actual take-up falling below initial demand.
The conditional ticket programme allows customers to register in advance for returned tickets for one match of up to seven nominated by the customer.

Fifa World Cup Venues

The 2006 World Cup will take place in 12 venue cities across Germany. There have been a total of 16 cities who apllied to be chosen from the committee - they have been cut down based on capacity, quality and safety standards and last but not least in respect of the location.
Each venue is looking forward to host at least 5 matches. The openening match will take place at the brand new AllianzArena in Munich. Berlins reunewed Olympiastadion is going to host the two finalist on 9th July 2006.
3 Stadiums have been awarded the highest quality standard aword of 5 Stars by the UEFA Stadium Committee: Hamburg, Gelsenkirchen and Munich.

Germany’s capital, Berlin (pop. 3.4mil) is a city full of life. The city was re-united in 1989 and since then has become one of the most international and cosmopolitan cities in Europe and Germany's cultural and social melting pot.

The imposing presence of Colognes Cathedral, the Dom, dominated not only the picturesque Old Town, but the whole city. Whithin the last 20 years media and entertainment industrie became a big economic factor for the region.

Leipzig (pop. 500,000) is located
in Saxony in the eastern part of germany. It has the reputation of having many architectural jewels. It was once home for Bach, Goethe, Schiller and Wagner. Historic buildings have been restored and cleaned and much of the city's vibrancy and street life have returned since the peaceful revolution in 1989 in which Leipzig had a leading role. The local football club VFB Leipzig had a tough time adapting to the new economic realities after reunification and is currently not playing in one of the top professional leagues.
